He wasn't exactly sure what he felt for her.
Taking a deep breath, he listed a couple of things that he was sure of.
     1. They had been friends for awhile now.
     2. Whenever she smiled, a weird feeling formed in the pit of his stomach. Apparently called 'butterflies'.
     3. She didn't show any sign of liking him.
     4. He had no experience with girls or romance in his entire life.
He sighed, feeling a bit dreary as each second passed. It used to be really easy to hang around Elizabeta...what happened?
"Hm? Are you alright Alan?" she asked, her jewel-like eyes blinking with innocence.
"Y-Yes! Never been better!" he replied, arranging a smile on his face and hope it was convincing enough to fool her.
Apparently it worked because she just nodded and have you a small smile back as her hands twisted around the handle of the picnic basket. He let out a breathy sigh of relief and looked out at the horizon. After a while, the two found a small patch of grass that they deemed nice enough. Each taking a seat, Hungary proceeded to bring out the platters of food that she had prepared in preparation for this picnic. She valued time she spent with Alan, because it seemed as if she was especially busy these days...
They ate a silence, one of them making an occasional comment of the weather or the food or the scenery. Even though the two put on an act that was so real that it almost fooled themselves, they were both uncomfortable, a single question lingering unspoken between them.
"I think I'm going to take a small walk and take a look at the scenery along the way...I'll be back in a minute okay?"
    "Sure."
She waited momentarily, hopping that he would add a little something else but it became obvious that that was his entire answer. She looked down, trying to hide the small flicker of sadness that sparked its way into her chest.
It seemed as if he wasn't going to volunteer to follow her.
When she left, her skirt flowing out behind her chocolate brown hair, Alan felt a sense of loneliness. He wanted to follow her...but what if she wanted some time alone? Perhaps it would be best to have some time to himself as well.
Then sky was slowly turning red, beautiful colors of gold and orange mixed together on a palette, forming different shades. His gaze traveled to a gliding butterfly, landing in a small patch of flowers. They were very pretty, with bright colors or pink and red.
A notion came over him, as he walked towards the flowers. They were maybe even more dazzling up close. He remembered that Elizabeta always loved flowers...
Picking a couple of the brightest colored flowers in the patch, he made sure that the petals were perfect and once he realized that he had a mini bouquet sitting in his hands, Elizabeta had returned.
    "What are you doing Alan?"
He swallowed thickly. This was the time, the perfect chance. If he didn't confess now, maybe there would never be another chance.
"Eliza, would you like to watch the sunset with me?"
He extended a hand in invitation, the other hiding the flowers behind his back. If she rejected him now...
A small smile lit up her face, her eyes sparkling in happiness. "That would be wonderful Alan," she nodded, taking his hand as they sat down.
The spot was the best. They had a perfect view of here giant ball of fire as it sank lower at where the sky and land seemed to meet, cradling each other. Alan's hand still sat on top of Elizabeta's, and neither one of them seemed to object.
    Now...
    Now was the time.
    "Elizabeta. I-I..."
She turned, her full attention on him now. It was now or never, but it was alright with him because he was certain. Certain that he-
    "I love you Elizabeta."
The silence was stifling. It choked him, and every second that passed felt like the longest second he'd ever experienced in his life. Was his confession too fast? Should he have invited her to some fancy dinner or-?
He was so caught up in his nervousness that he almost didn't notice when she leaned in and have him a small peck on the cheek. The effect was instantaneous, as a brilliant red blush covered his face.
"I love you too Alan," she smiled, that smile that have him butterflies.
He handed her the bouquet and the surprise on her face was soon exchanged with a hug. She seemed to like them...he thought sluggishly, still in his half dream-state.
That night, the two sat under the stars as they wished the same thing.
I'll give you a clue. It had something to do with love...
    And each other.
