Childhood Memories
"Mattie! Mattie!"
You ran as fast as your little legs could carry you, and when he finally turned around and flashed you a smile, you were happy.
"Hello [Name]. How are you doing?" he asked sweetly, his voice soft and reassuring.
"I'm great Mattie! We should go to the park! Mama said it is a beautiful day today!" you exclaimed, jumping up and down and barely able to contain your excitement.
"Oh alright [Nickname]! Since I promised before…let’s go to the park!"
As your mothers walked behind the two of you chatting about what parents chat about, you held Canada's hand. At first he blushed at the close contact, they he quickly loosened up and flashed you a smile.
"Miss [Last Name]."
You sit up immediately, realizing you had just fallen asleep in class...how embarrassing...
"I would prefer it if you kept your eyes open when I teach my lesson Miss [Last Name]," your teacher snapped sharply.
"I-I apologize Ma’am; I didn't get enough-"
"No excuses. Detention after school."
As the teacher finally left your desk, some people snickered at you while others looked sympathetic. You glared daggers at the teacher's retreating back.
When the teacher resumed her lesson like usual, you sneaked a glance at Matthew. He was still the same, occasionally taking a glance at the board then scrawling some notes across a notebook.
Mattie...
~Time Skip…After Detention…~
As soon as the lady announced that you were dismissed from detention, you grabbed your stuff and left the classroom without a second thought.
When the cold autumn air hit your face, your eyes hurried along, searching for the Canadian, him.
Though you didn’t catch sight of him however. You sighed, and bowed your head. Of course, detention was over an hour long, surely he had other things to do…it wasn’t like he was going to wait an hour long for you doing absolutely nothing-"
“[Name]!”
Looking up, you saw him.
Matt.
Without giving it a second thought, you glomped him as hard as you could. “Thank you so much for waiting for me! I thought you left…” you mumbled softly.
“I-It’s alright [N-Name]…I promised we would walk together remember?” he replied in that voice that you loved.
"Oh alright [Nickname]! Since I promised before…let’s go to the park!"
The memory came fast, invading your mind.
“[Name]?”
Finally breaking out of your thoughts, you replied will a strained smile, “S-Sorry! J-Just um…dozed off for a second there!”
Canada smiled, and the two of you started on your way home. Although the silence wasn’t awkward, your mind was a million miles away. You stared at Matthew, hoping that he wouldn’t notice the internal battle you were having with yourself…
He doesn’t remember…
It’s been this way for years now, you shouldn’t be one to keep blankly hoping like this. If you really did want him to remember you, you should act. Tell him [Name]!
But you couldn’t. Somehow, a part of you thought that it would be better if he didn’t know. If he didn’t know that-
That the two of you were childhood friends. And he promised you something that you’re still blindly grasping at.
~Flashback~
“[Nickname]!”
Your best friend Mattie ran toward you with a bright smile on his face. He seemed to be holding something in his hands, but he hid it behind his back so you couldn’t see what it was exactly.
“Mattie! What is that behind you?” you asked curiously, trying to look behind his back at the secret surprise.
He flashed you a small smile and replied, “[Nickname!] When I grow up I’m going to marry you and buy you lots and lots and lots of flowers!”
You jumped up and down in your little kid excitement. “Really Mattie? I would love that!”
He then boldly grasped your hand and dragged you over to your parents. “Mama! When I’m older I’m going to marry [Name]! And she said okay!”
Your mama and Mattie’s mama laughed. They said something about you two being too young for that.
Mattie just shook his head and placed a small wreath of flowers on your head. So that’s what he was hiding!
“You promise you’ll marry me [Nickname]?” he asked shyly.
“Yup!” you replied happily, as he slipped a flower ring on your finger. Just like your mama and papa had!
The two of you then embraced, the sound of church bells ringing in the far distance…
~End of Flashback~
When you finally did come back to reality, sadness painted your eyes. You wondered if he still remembered the promise he made. Inside, you really hoped he did…because you kept the promise all along.
But if he doesn’t remember…if he never truly thought that the promise was real…
You would still stay be his side.
-Extended Ending-
“[Name]?”
“Yeah?” you replied softly, still stuck in your little depression, realizing he probably thought that promise was all a joke.
“I was thinking…remember that old promise we made back when we were kids?”
Your heart beat quickens, your breath caught in your throat.
Did he really-?
“Well I wasn’t…I wasn’t lying.”
“Y-You still remember me…us?” you whispered softly in disbelief.
“Sorry…it’s just…I wasn’t sure if you still wanted to…you know…” his voice lowering with each word.
Then it came, the sound of church bells ringing in the far distance…
This was your chance; you took his hand and placed a small peck on his cheek.
“A promise is a promise Mattie,” you replied, a smile dancing on your lips.
He looked back at you in disbelief, and then echoed, “A promise is a promise.”
And he did keep that promise.

Inside The Cocoon. Canada X reader
You sat at home rather bored on a warm, lazy Saturday morning wishing for something to do. You had read all your books, beaten all your video games, and the next episode of your favorite anime didn't come out until Thursday. You slumped deeper into the couch and let out a long sigh. Maybe something was on TV. As you reached for the remote you heard your phone go off, it was Canada, you quickly answered. "Hey Canada, what's up?"
His voice was so quiet on the other end you had to turn your phone up just to hear him. "Nothing really." He paused. "I, I wanted to know if you were busy today. There's a new butterfly sa

It's really such a cliche day. Perfect azure sky, puffy, cottony clouds, and an annoying Prussian and American bothering me.
"Alfred, Gilbert! I said I don't want to!!" I whine as the albino laughs off my concerns.
"Kesese~ But (y/n)! It'd be so interesting! Please?" he asks, trying to pull off the puppy eyes, and looking away, I shake my head no.
As Alfred joins in, I'm stuck with x2 of these adorable, pleading eyes, which is hard to refuse to.
"F-fine...."I mutter as they cheer and take my arm, holding the pen. I recall the scene that had just happened a few minutes ago.
It was lunchtime, and I was talking to my friend, Matthew William

"Hey dude, I thought I told you it was your turn. What are you doing still sitting over there?" Grinning wide, America pulled you to your feet. "Go on, get your item and get in the closet."
"Right, I'm going. I kind of forgot it was my turn." You reached your hand into the hat, and quickly pulled a small bit of stuffing from the hat. "Uh, who's is this?"
"That's actually my bears, whose name I forgot, but it's my item." Canada was standing behind you, blushing furiously.
"Well, you two had better get in the closet before that bear comes back looking for his fluff!"America walked you two to the closet. "I'll warn you
